So a while back I was fiending for a good scifi YA read. I considered re-reading the Partials series (try it out if you haven't heard of it) but then I saw The 5th Wave was coming out in theaters and I figured I'd give it a shot. Well, now it IS in theaters and I can't wait to see it! I just need to trick some poor, unsuspecting soul into seeing it with me. The fiance is my next target.
The 5th Wave is a classic alien invasion / post apocalyptic tale. Cassie's parents are gone and her younger brother was taken . . . by the military? By aliens posing as humans? You'll find out. Cassie sets out on a daring and dangerous journey to save her brother. Her mindset is something along the lines of . . . stay alive, save brother, figure out the rest of life later . . . which I respect.
Cassie's got her priorities straight and manages to keep a firm hold on them even after meeting Evan. Evan is living alone in the woods. He's handsome and he's clearly got a secret. I imagine him with brown hair, green eyes, and a flannel shirt on. Side note: my fiance's name is Evan and this is what he looks like/wears . . . #biased.
This book has aliens, an adorable brother in need, a handsome stranger, and plenty of action. If you're looking for an exciting YA read . . . this is it. I give it four stars out of five. Again, let me repeat my mantra of "read first, watch later." So buy this book ASAP, read it ASAP, and then go watch the movie ASAP.
