The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey

December 23, 2015

The Girl With All The Gifts is one of those books that puts life on hold. It is all sorts of good E words - exciting, enthralling, emotional.  Frankly, I loved it.  Unfortunately, I've found it to be one of those books that I can't seem to get any of my friends or family to read.  You know that book? The one that you love so much and KNOW everyone else will love if they would just go ahead and read it?! This book is that book.

So please...do me a favor and read it.

The story takes place in post-apocalyptic Britain. (This is the point in the review where I typically lose people, but don't go!) I shamelessly love post-apocalyptic reads but I recognize not everyone over the age of 16 shares my sentiments. However, this is so much more than a Divergent type YA novel.  This book is weighty.  This book is for adults.

The book revolves around Melanie, one of the Zombie children captured and held for psychological examination.  When those on the outside disturb the peace, Melanie must venture into the world with two military men, a sympathetic school teacher, and a calculating scientist.

The book is full of thought provoking metaphors.  It continually asks the reader to consider our world and its fate.
